Promoting and advancing molecular understanding of biology
Let’s make face-to-face peer review mandatory. Make your voice heard by signing the petition!
By being a member of CSMB, you will be participating in building a strong community of scientists within Canada. This community will be increasingly important in moving forward into the new century, and building the next generation of researchers. It will speak for biochemists, molecular biologists and cell biologists both nationally and internationally.
CSMB sponsors an exciting theme-oriented meeting annually. Members receive substantially reduced registration rates for the annual meeting.
The society participates in science advocacy and science policy activities which benefit all of us. Advocacy efforts were instrumental in persuading the federal government to increase funding for biomedical research, and establish the CIHR, however, there is still more work to be done.
Through its award programs, the society acknowledges the research accomplishments of Canadian scientists. At present we have four awards. We recognize "rising stars" in the early years of their careers with the CSMB New Investigator Award. The Canadian Science Publishing Senior Investigator Award and the Jeanne Manery Fisher Memorial Lectureship recognizes an outstanding Canadian woman scientist. CSMB Arthur Wynne Gold Medal is presented to an individual who has made a major contribution to biochemistry, molecular and cell biology and genetics in Canada over their career.
Travel awards and poster awards for graduate and post-doctoral trainees assist them in attending CSMB-sponsored meetings, and reward their scientific efforts.
CSMB supports educational events at universities across Canada, such as undergraduate and graduate research conferences, scientific symposia and career days, on request (see Student Activities for more details). Employment opportunities are also offered through the Job web page .
The CSMB is presently one of the the largest scientific societies in
Canada. We encourage you to join.
